A pontoon is a type of boat that looks different from other types. It has a flat bottom or floats that used to support the structure on water. It is also know as the “Party barge“. It is simply constructed from a closed cylinders or barrels or fabricated as boxes from concrete of metal to be used as a support for the simple platform by creating a raft. Most commonly, pontoon boats are used as a small vehicle that is motorized to cross freshwater.

Pontoon boat are first invented last 1952 by a Minnesota farmer named Ambrose Weeres. He thought of putting a wooden deck to the top of a two-columns steel barrels and welded together. He then figured out that his invention is more stable in fresh water than the conventional boat.

Because of his invention, he then thought this is a great idea to market. So he made a few units and sell then in a select dealer. The first pontoon he made was named “The Empress”. He then build his own company the “Weeres Industries”. Today, Weeres Industries are still making sales from their quality pontoons even if Mr. Ambrose Weeves already passed away last 1991.

That’s the story of Mr. Ambrose Weeres, also known as “Mr. Pontoon”. Be inspired how a simple living farmer created and invented your pontoon boat.
